about
Shiver is a heavy one for me. The song interprets a tragic event that occurred in my teenage years: a middle-of-the-night canoe accident that resulted in the drowning of one of my closest friends.
It's the first time I've written about this subject in a way that feels like it captures -- for me -- a fraction of what living through that period felt like. I hope it touches you in some way.
I'm so grateful for the truly talented and inspiring Detroit-based musicians that helped bring this song to life:
- Ashley Nelson // Violin
- Jasmine James // Cello
- Bryan Pope // String Arrangement
- Jake Shives // Audio Engineering and Production
Much love.

lyrics
Calm is the lake
Cold is the night
Take out the boat
For a little joy ride
See what we find
Wind at our backs
Head for the shore
Where the girls wait
They both climb aboard
Something's not right
Stars are scattered
In the sky
Nervous laughter
Covers up our fright
I feel a shiver
Run down my spine
Nobody talks
Wind gets stronger
The half-moon
Reflects in the water
A shimmering light
Half way home
Taking forever
I look down
And we're taking on water
Watch it rise
Stars are scattered
The cold it bites
Nervous laughter
Covers up our fright
I feel a shiver
Run down my spine
Jump in the lake
Swim for the shore
Paddle so hard
My arms can't take no more
My body goes tight
One last push
Don't see the others
God damn
I think I'm going under
This is my time
Stars are scattered
In the sky
Freezing water
Covers up my eyes
I feel the shiver
One last time
